“Ísland á iði” (“Iceland on the move”)

Iceland on the move” is an ongoing project, aimed for trying to get the general public on the move, stand up from the sofas and get in better shape.  The project is active throughout the country with two bases; in Reykjavik and in Akureyri in the north part of Iceland. Various organizations in the healthcare have been cooperating and related to this project.

 

“Hjólað í vinnuna” (“Cycle to work!”)

The year 2003, ÍSÍ started the project “Cycle to work”.  People were erged to cycle to work and workmates made teams and a competition between workplaces were started. 

This project has been a huge success with 1147 teams participating in the year 2009, 8041 participants who cycled 493.202 km that equals ca. 12,3 circles around the world in three weeks! The website for this project is www.hjoladivinnuna.is

“Lífshlaupið” (“The Life-Run”)

“Lífshlaupið” is a national project, aimed to educate and motivate people in Iceland to increase their motion, at home, at work and in school. The Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and the Institution of Public Health support this project. You can win bronze, silver and gold medals based on the participation. The slogan for this project is “Your health – your fun!”  The website for this project is www.lifshlaupid.is

Statistics for Lífshlaupið 2010

The total number of participants increased 44% between the year 2009 and 2010 and was 13.337 participants in total (9282 in 2009). 

The biggest increase, 170%,  was within elementary and secondary schools were total number of participants was 3598 (1330 in 2009).

The most popular activity was walking (22,63%).
